Before you go any further you should know that YAOI is a term for stories or images that involve male/male interaction with characters from an game, anime, or manga where the couple in question isn't cannon. I'm telling you this because my stories are almost always from this genre. Other terms you may see tossed around are SHOUNEN AI (sweet, romantic, stuff about boys in love with boys, but no lemon [aka graphic sexual content].) JUNE (an original anime /manga where the characters started off in a male/male relationship instead of being subjected to it via fanfiction), or SLASH (fan based homosexual content, but for Western art like comic books, novels, etc.)
